55:11 :: 7.75 miles + 50min bike

Recovery run. Legs pretty beat up from the hills, feeling the DOMS. Hit the bike to offset some of the pounding and warm up well, then got in just about 8 miles before the kids woke up. Worked well to take care of that .25 miles from yesterday. =)

Knee felt good, left calf was good too. A light massage last night and icing the quads this morning should help clear off the pain a bit quicker.

OK, forgive the ignorance, but I am unfamiliar with DOMS.

Enjoyed the pic from a few days ago, looks like a very nice run.

Sorry about that. Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness. Usually it gets blamed on lactic acid, but it's just straight up pain from muscle fiber damage, inflammation, and edema. Usually takes a day or two to show up, therefore the 'delayed' part of the term.

I love the Lost Valley road. It's located just outside of Belgrade, Minnesota. There's a little apple orchard right near it as well. Nice little area. Tough running at any pace, though!

That looks like a great place to run! I haven't seen it on your blog before. Is it difficult to get there on a regular basis? Rolling, hilly terrain on dirt is something you can't get too much of, particularly as you start adding more fartlek-type running. In North Dakota, that stuff is hard to come by.

It's about three miles from my sister-in-law's farm, which is unfortunately about 3.5 hours from GF. We get there maybe three times a year. It's very similar to the Hawksnest road we ran back in our high school days, but that is about two hours away. The real specific-strength, power-building hill run is very hard to find around here.

There is a state park that I go to once in a while with a mildly hilly profile, about twenty minutes away, but it's tough logistically because it adds an hour of travel time to an already tight schedule. I would like to get out there once a week, especially for the long run, but it just hasn't worked out.
