42:09 :: 6 miles

Still feeling a bit off. Just went easy and short today, and hopefully I can shake this weird feeling. I haven't taken a 'day off' in a few weeks, and I feel better now after this run for doing it. Workouts have been going well, but it has set high expectations for every day higher and higher. It's still just base for the next two to three weeks, so I need to settle down.

What kind of weird feeling now? Is this like a flu thing or just a general malaise? If your kids are anything like ours they often have a "germ of the week" to pass along. In the grand scheme of things a day or two easy will probably help more than hurt. Runners love to say this to other people while obsessing over it when it happens to them (voice of experience here).

Feel better.

Uh oh - I had a queasy feeling which laid me up for several days. Not pretty.

Here's to hoping you escape with only a 'weird feeling'.

Your consistency during base building is admirable. Looking forward to following your MP specific training.

Good health.

Thanks guys. I suppose if it was the flu, it would be much more severe. This is more like the unsettled feeling you get an hour or two before you start throwing up profusely, but I've had it for a full day now, just not getting any worse.

Thankfully, our kids seem relatively impervious to germs. When they get something, though, mom and dad seem to get it in spades. I've never had such nasty colds as the ones I catch from the kids.

I agree with an easy day or two being a good thing, especially when the previous couple of weeks have gone very well. There's too much of an urge to keep ramping up the intensity when things are going well.

I think I found the edge here in the last couple of days, so I can pull back slightly from here and wait for the next level of fitness to develop before heading into the specific marathon training around 16 weeks out.

As long as I escape the 'weird feeling' with an easy day or two.. .

Good luck with escaping the “weird feeling”. It’s been good following your running of late, you’ve been very consistent and steady, fantastic base work. Whether a result of the “feeling” or to allow your body to absorb the training you’ve put in, an easy day or two won’t matter in the big scheme. All the best.

Thanks, Michael. I did some looking back over the logs from last year, and I am pretty surprised at the difference. Paces are similar, but the consistency of effort is much greater. Overall, the base I am building now is like nothing I've ever done before.

I hadn't noticed, but it looks like those who follow my blog have. Interesting stuff!
