Much better today. 2x600, 2x200 with about two miles running between each 600 and the set of 200s. Everything felt smooth again today, and the pace was better. Legs seemed to have a lot more snap.

Good to see you bounce back. I think one day of "blah" can be anything, but if it stretches out to two then it could be a sign of either "overreaching" (to quote a pal). The crap weather and the addition of intermittent speed adds a few variables though, which makes things more complicated.
I have to say I'm amazed at how quick you are already at the intervals you are throwing in. I can't wait to see what you do when you get on the track (bring a shovel).
Yeah, it seems like the speed came back fairly well. The last two or three sessions seem to have ironed out the stride very nicely.
I'm excited about the upcoming speed work. I don't know how 'speedy' it will be, as most of it will be longer, volume oriented intervals, but I suppose some of the sharp stuff will be quicker.
Another day or two of these 30 mph winds and 40 degree weather, and I can leave the shovel at home...at least until we get our traditional foot of snow and ice in April.

"Oh yeah, that's it."

Quick question,
Since you and Mike from Tucson stay in close touch, I always assumed that you were a Lydiard follower. I am a little confused at this moment. It shows 58 days to marathon race, and I don't see hill repeats in your program yet. Can you clarify for me if you are a Lydiard disciple or do you follow your own destiny?
I am embarrassed at this moment, after meticulously monitoring your blogs for several months, to not know this.
"Cuz I'm an idiot"
Good question. Where I live, there is not much in the way of hills, so I tend not to talk about them much.
I have been doing some hills on the treadmill in preparation for the hill work that is starting up next week and will continue through the next month or so.
As far as being a Lydiard disciple, I think I probably identify most closely with his philosophy, however I wouldn't exclude anyone's good advice. Most training theory in the past 40+ years has been adapted from Lydiard anyway.
Arthur himself would be quick to say that he didn't invent common sense, which is what his method amounts to.
It is always a nice welcome to come back strong after a blah day.
A Lydiard Disciple? And all this time I thought you were the 5th Beetle.
I am the eggman, you are the walrus, goo-goo-ga-joob.
