1:06:00 :: 10.7 miles

Taper workout. Getting ready for a low-key 5K on Saturday morning. Very nice weather, slight breeze, 61F and sunny.

10 minute warmup
5:35(152) | 5:33(157) | 5:31(158)
5:33(160) | 5:33(162)
2 miles steady
6:15(152) | 6:20(149)
3x1000m on 5:00
3:07(165-:61) | 3:05(163-:57) | 3:04(164-:63)

Felt like crap on the first 1000, and considered stopping. Otherwise the workout was good to very good. Last mile of the five miles was a bit difficult, but still under control.

Are you going to be doing much racing this summer?

Well, I'll be doing some. I'm doing the 5K this weekend, then a 10K on July 4. There is a half marathon in town on August 2, then I have some unfinished business at the Ox Cart Days 10K on August 16th and another half on September 6--the Dick Beardsley Run, where I will try to defend my win and take down the course record. There are a couple of other low-key 5K and 10Ks I will run in town in October, as well as a 15K at the end of October where I would like to try to break 50 minutes. The last race is always the Vet's Day Cross Country 8K, and then I will rest up for a week or two before starting base for Fargo 2009.

It sounds like a lot when I write it out like that, but I think it's a pretty moderate schedule. I'd like to get some more cross country races in there, but there is a real lack of opportunity in the area. We'll see what happens.

Moderate, my ass? You're correct, it does sound like a lot when you write it out. Still, with your conditioning at the moment I'm sure you'll have fun. We'll all be watching:)

Wow, Fargo '09 will roll around quickly.

46F here, cold and windy.

It doesn't look like a lot to me. After all, it is the racing season eh?

Good luck in the 5k - go hard!

Knock 'em dead at the 5K Eric. That workout certainly makes it look like you're ready to roll.

First you get an international airport then a half marathon? Crazy. That's a lot of short stuff but sounds like fun. I like the "unfinished business" business - that sums up my entire running career; I'm glad you've got just one race!
