1:12:49 :: 10 miles

Recovery run. Put the new Interpol album on the iPod and ran very easy today. The kids have been sick and I've been tired and possibly sick as well. Standing HR of 45 this morning, yes 4-5, that is not a typo. That is so low, it makes me wonder if the last two days of low heart rates are from being sick or if it results from fitness. I guess I'll find out on Saturday. =) Averaged 126 HR and 7:17 pace. Felt really good, and had a nice run.

Wow man. You run fast! Congrats to Cindy on her recent PR. I think that's hilarious about the guy saying he would have "blown her away". How small is his _____? (smile)

Eric,

I may be too dumb to piece things together, but are you training for anything this Fall?

PS: The "blown away" guy deserves to be eating teeth; really, it's a road race, not the freakind Worlds...

I was going to ask the same question! What are you training for?

You look like you're in shape for something.

My resting HR is right around 45 (ranges from 43-46)and I am nowhere as fit as you.

I vaguely remember reading (maybe here?) that low HRs could be a result of fatigue. Anyway, I am no expert on the subject. I know that my heart does indeed beat, and for me that is enough.

What's on the menu for Saturday?

Thanks, Byron. His weenie would have been a lot shorter than it already was if Cindy had let me get after him. That guy was something else.

I have been training to just run well in a series of summer and fall races. Not really pointing to anything in particular--kind of pointing to the season in general with a greater focus on two races: The Beardsley Half Marathon on Saturday (9.8.07) and the Vet's Day 8K (11.11.07), which is a local cross country race that I keep getting second or third place at because I am never in as good of fitness as the college and high school kids that inexplicably show up at that race. Oh no...I'm not bitter at all. =)

The races are a good distance apart, but I will have a few filler races in between. Mystery Coach has guided me expertly from recovery in June through a speed build in July to the maintenance/racing phase I'm in now. It may be too much to expect I can maintain or even increase my fitness over the next two months, but if it can be done, I have the support system to do it.

I have an entry for both the Twin Cities Marathon and the Twin Cities 10-mile, but I won't be using either due to conflicts with my wife's school schedule.

Marc, the resting HR is very individual, so don't read too much into the numbers! =) That said, when I wasn't running much (3-4 years ago), my range was 48-52 still lying in bed. Now it's 38-42 in bed, and on some days it gets down to 45 while I'm standing up, which amuses me to no end. Docs and nurses freak out when they check my pulse, and that's when it's in the 50s. I'd love to see what they would do if they got me on one of the really low days.

Anyway, fitness definitely has an effect, and I don't know anyone who gets into the 40s for free.

Thanks for the comments!

Eric, hope you quickly get over whatever might be eating at your system. You seem ready for Saturday, now go show them how big your weenie is.

Oh wait, that's Bay to Breakers, isn't it?

You're killing me man!! Tell the good people about the damn race!

Er... I was sent here by Mike to ask about your race.

So, how was your race?

Just a couple minutes...I'm summarizing it now. =)

I laughed out loud when I saw that e-mail pop up, Andrew! Props to you and Mike for that.
